Paul Boyer to Conni Ramser: Wake up -- those rehires are DOUBLE-DIPPING at OUR expense!

June 4, 2006
Conni, you know how I felt about you when you were appointed to the board sometime ago. Later I came and apologized to you and told you I had heard some good things about you.
Recently, you have changed all of that. First, you were absolutely out of order when you suggested to the chair in one meeting that Dennis Leone was out of order in presenting a substitute motion and you and Dr. Brown prevailed. Roberts Rules of Order states that a substitute motion is in order at any time and takes precedence over the main motion. If the substitute then passes, the main motion is dead and the substitute prevails.
I disagree with your stand on health care insurance for rehires. The health insurance is for those who retire and stay out of teaching. When they return to their same job at the same rate of pay, they are DOUBLE DIPPING and should not be entitled to STRS insurance. I know of one man in one of our local schools in our county who is making almost $100,000.00 per year with his STRS and contract for teaching That is sinful.
Are you aware that most school districts like to hire the rehires simply because of the money they save? There are also many school systems that give a bonus to any teacher who uses some other insurance than theirs. We have one school system in Allen County that I understand gives any teacher who does not take their insurance a bonus of $3000.00.
You promised some of our CORE people that if reelected, you would put the needs of the retired members first but if your actions lately are any evidence as to how you think and act, I shudder as to what havoc you will play in a full four year term. Please wake up and remember this is OUR money; and read and memorize ORC 3307.15 so that you know how you are to act as a board member with the STRS funds. After all, it was a bad Executive Director and five or six OEA board members that caused all of the problems that brought CORE into being. We will not stop now. We mean business.
