Glenna Barr: Minutes of CORE meeting of December 14, 2006

President Dave Parshall opened the CORE meeting, December 14, 2006 at approximately 11:45 AM in the room behind the Sublett Room next to the cafeteria at the STRS building. All the officers were present and trustees: Betty Bell, Chuck Angeletti, Nancy Boomhower, Donna Thorp,substituting for Nancy Hamant, and Lloyd Knudsen, substituting for Chuck Chapman. Other guests from ORTA attending were: Ann Hanning, Don Bright, and Mickie Kreidler.
Dave Parshall called for corrections of the minutes. There were no corrections. Betty Bell made a motion to accept the minutes; Nancy Boomhower seconded the motion and all approved. The treasurer's report was given. Mary Ellen Angeletti made a motion to accept them and Duke Snider seconded and all approved. CJ Myers,the treasurer, read letters from retirees thanking CORE for all their hard work for them.
Committee Reports:
(1) Dave stated our website is up and going. He would like to have a committee of people from the different regions to give CORE info out. Molly Janczyk could have this under her Contacts and Regional Reps committee.
Old Business:
Ryan Holderman, who was not present, provided the proposed Constitution Amendment for Article IX, point 4 (Article IX, Dissolution of the Organization, point 4 which currently reads: 4. All remaining monies held by CORE after expenses have been met, will be dispersed by the Board of Trustees to retired teachers with health care needs. SHALL BE AMENDED TO READ: 4. All remaining monies held by CORE, after expenses have been met, will be donated to the Ohio State Teachers Retirement Systems Health Care Assistance Program which has been established to provide financial aid to those retirees whose pension income meets the requirements established by STRS)
There are three steps to take to amend the Constitution and at this meeting the first step was taken. A discussion was held to donate monies of CORE disbursed to go to the Ohio State Retirement Systems Health Care Assistance Program. This amendment will be presented at the next meeting as a motion. At the February meeting, CORE will vote on it.
(2) Dave Parshall discussed the Spring Rally and stated there are several problems in organizing this rally. A discussion was held by the members as to how to organize this rally.
(3) Dave Parshall gave the following info on how to request a CD copy of STRS meetings: CDs of the STRS meetings can be ordered by e mail, phone, or write. Send your request to Joyce Baldwin, baldwinj@strsoh.org or if you do not have an e mail, you may call 1-614-227-4090 and ask for Joyce Baldwin. If you prefer to write for the CDs, send in your request to Joyce Baldwin, STRS, 275 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio, 43215.
NEW BUSINESS:
(1) Flowers were sent to the Tom Mooney Memorial and a motion was made by Herman Fisher and Jim Reed seconded to send a donation of $100 to the Tom Mooney Memorial Scholarship Fund.
(2) A report was given by Mary Ellen Angeletti on her visit with John Lazarus to the Clinton County RTA meeting. Their speeches were well accepted and brought attention and interest to the retiree plight. Jim Reed gave a report of his attendance at the Fairfield County RTA meeting.
(3) A CORE Alert will be sent over the e-mail by John Curry on the Plain Dealer article. Majority of the Board of Trustees gave a vote of approval to send out this alert. You can also see the article on Kathie Bracy's blog, www.kathiebracy.blogspot.com.
(4) John Lazares will be having knee surgery in the near future, and we wish him the best.
(5) The next meeting will be January l8th at the STRS building.
