Dayton Daily News: Run schools like WHICH business?

From John Curry, January 28, 2007 10:51 AM
Subject: Schools ought to be run like businesses, right?
I find commentary in today's Dayton Daily News rather interesting. How many times have non-educators told you that "schools ought to be run like businesses?" Many times I'll bet. Well, this person has an excellent answer to that age old question that many non-educators and some educators often use to criticize public schools.
"Which business would you like Dayton Public Schools to be run like? GM? Ford? Delphi? Vectren? DP&L? Enron? WorldCom? I get pretty frustrated when 90 percent of new businesses fail within five years, yet people cling to the simplistic false analogy that schools ought to be run like a business."
Well said, I say! John
