From a retiree, October 20, 2008
I wonder what it would take to get the local active teachers' association (union) AND the retired teachers (XX) Cty. Assoc. fired up enough to add their voices to what is happening to our funding for pensions now being used to live on/or WILL be used sometime down the road to retire with?
When I took a group of CORE members to our local retiree luncheon to alert our retirees to what was happening several years ago, that got Dennis Leone elected to turn things around, their reaction was total indifference. (XX) was the president, and it was clear they were all part of the "good ole boys" network (ORTA) and had no intentions to listen or react supportively to thousands of Ohio teachers from all over the state who wanted change with new board members who would be fiscally responsible in managing our retirement monies.
Let's not become so complacent that the warnings again on the rise will fall on deaf ears! Where are the leaders among the active teachers in (XX) City Schools and in the (XX) County Schools who will be dependent upon pension funds in the future?? Where are the retiree leaders who will lend their voices in support of Dennis Leone who is still working hard, bucking the Board and voting NO on unreasonable bonuses to investment staff members who are waiting with open hands to receive a "bonus" for losing US -- you and me, $25 Billion DOLLARS and expecting a bonus for doing it!
We can't get a 13th check anymore, but THEY are going to vote in a bonus for themselves! Who will step forth and lead the charge with a petition containing names of teachers, both active and retired, who support Dennis Leone, so he will NOT feel he is alone in standing up to the rest of the greedy Board members, who follow one another like lemmings on their way to drown in a sea of ME FIRST mentalities? How much more invested monies must be lost before we all receive letters telling us our retirement pensions are being recalculated, due to the loss with invested monies by our esteemed investment staff members?? Which "SPA" will they choose, to go and relax with their bonus money?
