Lloyd Knudsen: Why would MM and STRS exchange sensitive info (ours) via US mail? Where are the disks....and why can't MM answer questions when called?

From Lloyd Knudsen, October 26, 2008
Subject: Medical Mutual of Ohio info
Medical Mutual was notified by the retirement systems when the disks didn't arrive at their Columbus offices as they normally do each month.
"Anyone with questions can call Medical Mutual at 800-854-8139."
Joanne called the 800 number and they had NO new information on the problem. When she asked if they knew if our names were part of the data lost the Medical Mutual employee could not or would not tell her.
I have not read of anyone on my e-mail addressing this issue. Have the disks been found? If not, what is STRS doing about it? And the larger question is -- why in the world would Medical Mutual of Ohio and STRS be exchanging highly personal retiree information THROUGH THE U.S. MAIL SYSTEM?
I know at STRS they pore over every little expense but surely we can afford UPS delivery of something that personal and important. Anyone have any information or thoughts on the problem?
