Tim....100,000+ retirees want to know something.....

John Curry to Tim Myers, January 23, 2011
Tim,
How could you justify removing that final (and miserable) 1% from our employer contributions to the healthcare fund and moving it over to the retiree fund just so current actives could avoid the 35 year service requirement with full benefits at a final average salary that retirees can now only dream of?
Those moneys (all 1% of them) were (and are) earmarked to keep our healthcare insurance costs (high as they already are) down? Where would the difference be made up and when? OPERS already pays 5 and one half times as much into their healthcare fund as STRS does....no wonder their health insurance (including spouse) is affordable and STRS's is over $1,300 per month.
Please address this issue to all of us who have retired status as we would like to know.

Thank you.
John
