Letter to Columbus Dispatch: Privileged few sit on board of trustees
"Why do we need home builders and banking executives to tell OSU administrators they are doing a fine job, no matter what they do?" Oh my -- deja vu! Why does the latter part of this question remind me of all those good OEA folks who flocked to STRS, apparently well orchestrated and scripted by some Association organizer, to address the Board on Dennis Leone's swearing-in day last September 15, 2005, most of whom had never appeared before and haven't appeared since? KBB
I respond to the Dec. 31 Dispatch article "Wexner among 3 named to OSU board of trustees." When I read about the new moguls appointed, it dawned on me that The Dispatch is part of the problem.
Our central Ohio community has its leaders, one of them being the Wolfe family, who owns this newspaper and WBNS-TV and radio. Its views help shape our community.
We are run by an oligarchy of the rich and the few. Why do we need them to help run our university?
Why do we need home builders and banking executives to tell OSU administrators they are doing a fine job, no matter what they do?
There are no trustees who are parents of undergraduates. The parents who pay all the bills, either by tuition or taxes, have no say. We are not rich; we are not famous; we are just parents who want the best for our children. We have no say; we are never heard. Even the poor student representative on the board of trustees has no say. The poor student can only sit there and nod.
Shame on you.
