Paul Boyer to STRS Board: Conni must resign

From Paul Boyer, November 5, 2006
Subject: removal
Dear STRS Board Member:
Here is a copy of my most recent letter to Conni Ramser and I hope you will read both of these letters very carefully. STRS retirees and particularly members of CORE are absolutely opposed to Conni Ramser sitting on the STRS board any longer and specifically being the chair of the board. She used subterfuge when applying for appointment to a vacancy by somehow knowing what the questions were going to be and had her answers all ready. Then the board, against its own rule, elected her vice-chair last year when she did not fit the criteria. To be elected as vice chair, the person must have two years left on their term and she had only one. She has acted totally irresponsibly while on the board. Last year in one meeting, she called Dr. Leone out of order when he tried to present a substitute motion. First, it is the chair's responsibility to declare a member out of order and second, Dr. Leone, under all existing Parliamentary Procedure, was absolutely in order to present a substitute motion.
This year she has continued to find fault with Dennis, even in board meetings, and at least on one occasion threw a fit when she was not getting her way.
All board members have an equal right to speak on the board and their board powers exist only during a meeting, never outside of a meeting.
SB 133 has a new provision in it for punishing any board member who does certain irregularities. I, for one, will be closely watching her behavior and if she does anything to bring her under these complaints, I will be the first to complain to the proper authorities. After all, she was appointed and now elected to the board to work diligently for all retirees, not to carry out her own private desires. I am adding below the last letter I have written to her in which I have, for at least the second time, asked for her resignation from the board.

Collaboration works both ways. It seems it only means something to Ramser, Leibensperger, etc. if we make nice and then shut up (Conni's words at a board meeting). No one spoke to her to my knowledge from OEA when she has acted badly with what is felt to be spoiled tactics and words when she was not liking how things were going or bad mouthed Leone publically (something which seems to be the protocal of some in OEA with not ever apologizing or spreading info not correct and never stating it was incorrect).
Yet, the blame is put on us who draw attention to bad behavior. We don't accept that. We won't accept that. We react in kind. We will react in kind. This message seems to be one some in OEA don't want to accept when those some continue on their path and say and do as they please yet wish others to simply shut up and stay out of the way. Play nice; mean it; act it and you will receive in kind.
