Subject: John Lazares
John just called. He wanted to thank everyone for all the cards and flowers. He is so appreciative. He is not ready for phone calls at this time as he is still exhausted and under antibiotic treatment which makes it difficult for him to eat. Strong antibiotics can cause nausea.
The new, very powerful antibiotic he is to take is prohibitive in cost and his insurance is denying payment. This was too late on Fri. so they had to pay out of pocket. The pharmacist faxed John's Dr. and hopefully when they learn of his circumstance, this will resolve.
The Dr. told John, his leg was deteriorated and he could have lost it. He had been falling down and now knows it was due to the implant being so unstable due to his bone softening , his knee was just giving out. When they operated, the old implant just fell out vs. having to chisel it out as normal.
But, true to form, he wanted to make sure everyone knew how grateful he is for all the thoughts, prayers, cards and flowers asking to "Please tell everyone............"
He will call if any updates prior to his next surgery: 3/5/07. When they Dr. opens him, he will do a quick biopsy to ensure infection IS GONE! His Dr. is not pleased with his first surgeon and feels that is where this infection initiated during his first surgery. This Dr. told him he could not see how John was functional at all since his last surgery as the pain from this kind of infection takes over any amount of pain meds.
