A loss in the CORE family: Dr. Kay Fluke

From Bob Jones
December 4, 2017
To All,
Sadly for all the retired teachers, Kay Fluke, PhD., Legislative Chair and Lifetime Member of SummitCRTA/ORTA and a past proud CORE member passed away last evening at 9:00 p.m., Dec. 3, 2017.
Over the last 30-years, or so, he worked hard to improve and maintain our pension benefits. At many STRS OH meetings, he always championed the 13th check because of its fair calculation. Although in the past 10 years the his task was made more difficult by public school foes and their “hired-guns ”, he fought even harder to maintain and improve our promised HC/Rx and the COLA -- to no avail. As a member of his Summit/CRTA Legislative Committee, I can note that there just was not enough support from fellow members locally and statewide to move forward.

Also, as a retired Akron City Public high school counselor and a U.S. Air Force captain, Kay Fluke gave his life to public service. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Fluke.

His memory will not be soon be forgotten by those of us who were so privileged to know and work with him.

Details of his funeral are not yet known, but services are pending at Prentice Funeral Home, Inc., 1154 Kenmore Blvd., Akron, OH 44314; Tel: 330-753-7721.

Surely, Kay will be missed by us all, may he rest in peace,

Robert H. Jones, STRS OH retired member
