Dear Tom:
Your remarks are thoughtful and thought provoking. Just what we need if we're to have useful dialogue with those who would seek seats on the STRS board.
You've raised important issues. The coming election for two "active" seats on the STRS board is important not only to "actives" but also "retireds". I have long thought that it is a great burden for classroom teacher to hold seat. The number of meetings that must be attended and the amount of time that must be spent in reading and preparing for the board meetings is daunting. Perhaps that is why OEA was able to monopolize the board for so many years. They were able to arrange release time/leaves for the people they wished to see seated on the board.
Thanks for your letter and ideas.
Gotta go.....I think I hear a commotion out on the lawn! ;-)
Merry Christmas,
Ryan
