Tom Curtis: 5 candidates to be on the ballot

February 28, 2006
Hello Everyone,
FYI - I contacted Joyce Baldwin today at the STRS. I asked how many of the 9 teachers who requested petitions from the STRS had returned the required number of signatures needed to be on the ballot in 2006. Only 5 obtained the necessary signatures required.
Those 5 are listed alphabetically below, followed by their endorsing organization.
John Brackett - University of Cincinnati - OFT
Mark Fredrick - Cleveland Municipal Schools - CORE/OFT
Thomas Hall - Miami University - CORE
Mark Meuser - Gahanna-Jefferson City Schools - OEA
Constance Ramser - Jackson Local Schools - OEA
Please continue to contact actives, inactives and disability retirees and remind them to vote in April, hopefully for Mark Fredrick and Tom Hall.
It is my hope that all retirees could somehow find a way to contact at least 5 active teachers by phone and ask them to vote for Fredrick and Hall.
CORE has found from past elections that the best way of getting votes is through personal contacts.
PLEASE make this a priority. We need to elect candidates that we know will fully support the Ohio Revise Code section 3307.15. This section calls for all STRS board decisions to be made solely and exclusively for the benefit of the STRS retiree and their beneficiary, first and foremost.
This concept must be paramount in the minds of all board members to ensure the future solvency of our STRS retirement pension and health care. Please help me in supporting Mark Fredrick and Tom Hall.
Please allow me to sincerely thank everyone that has taken part thus far in supporting our two candidates by getting out there and obtaining petition signatures to ensure they would be on the ballot. That really was the easy part, as we must now step that effort up and help these two be elected during the month of April.
Ballots will be mailed on April 4th and due back no later then May 1st.
Thank you,
Tom Curtis
