Barb Garwood writes Board members re: spending limits for executive director

July 2, 2006
[Sent to STRS Board members Chapman, Fisher, Zelman and Ramser]
I urge you and others who vote on the STRS Board to become active in monitoring the money you have sworn to guard. Two examples of improving your responsible actions are: 1) vote FOR limiting the spending of Executive Director Asbury to less than $100,000 without formal Board approval and 2) vote FOR reviewing contracts and other expenditures before approving the amount of money to be spent.
I submit to you that EVERY responsible member of any public board would demand to limit spending without full board approval and would also demand to review contracts for projects before allocating money to cover the contracts.
Thank you for demonstrating "due diligence" while in your position to protect my part of the STRS public fund.
