Tom Cooper to Paul Boyer: Congratulations on having the fortitude to speak your mind

July 4, 2006
Mr. Boyer;
As a independent conservative, I find your letter concerning support for governor inspiring. Isn't it time ALL of Americans stopped associating themselves with "my party!---right or wrong" ? I have no affiliation with any party.
As an independent conservative, I understand that no party represents me. People who happen to think for themselves, rather than be mentally led around by political hacks, are outcasts in society today. The only way to make an intelligent decision today is to agree with Rush Limbaugh or Al Franken, or you are either Anti-American or evil.
I understand the concepts, in theory, as to the two party configuration. As a conservative, I am as completely dismayed to witness the shift of the Republican party from democratic principles to imposition of fascist ideologies, as I am of the Democratic party toward anarchy.
Most disgusting, however, is that weak-kneed, pseudo-political power mongers, such as Ann Hanning, and anyone at ORTA who would lead their constituents to buckle under to political blackmail, such as "we'll quit if you do your job..."...let them quit. Do YOUR job! This nation is starving for leadership. This state is starving for leadership. Leadership is decisive. In a democracy, leadership is decisive in the interest of the people its leaders represent.
While I have little interest in most "liberal" issues, Ken Blackwell is a disaster waiting to happen, on top of the worst governor in Ohio's history.
Congratulations on having the fortitude to speak your mind, instead of having some party bureaucrat tell us what you think.
