Jim Reed discovers the "P" word in writing

Jim N. Reed to Kathie Bracy, February 4, 2007
Subject: "Education Panel Has Worthy Recommendations"

Kathie, anybody pick-up on the column in Saturday's Dispatch [posted below] written by William Bainbridge (described as "distinguished professor at the University of Dayton and president and chief executive officer of "School March," a Columbus-based educational auditing, research, and data company)?

As he concludes the article regarding the findings of a group called "New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce," he speaks to the education pension system:
"Red flags also go up regarding eliminating secure pension benefits for those already employed. This would appear to be a violation of the PROMISES made to many educators when they were hired."
The reason this caught my attention is the denial from my State Senator, and others, that there ever was such a "promise."
Would not affordable healthcare for the retiree and spouse, a compound COLA, and even the 13th check, be considered secure pension benefits?
I believe I shared with you once before that the state ORTA rep at the last Fairfield County RTA indicated that the 13th check was a "mistake."
What say you?
