Subject: Certain politicians now exploiting patriotism for their own gain
To all:
In the media, our CORE has recently exposed those politicians that were exploiting religion for personal gain for themselves and their business friends. The result was in the last statewide election many were voted out of office. Now, certain politicians are trying to do the same with patriotism. We educators, and our brothers and sisters in other state retirement systems, have long memories. Come the next election, these individuals who would try in the name of patriotism to exploit our retirement funds will also experience defeat in their attempts at re-election. My friends, we public employees are not stupid. However, in reality, the politicians who back such an extreme position as exemplified in HB 151 are hurting themselves by alienating a large segment of the voting public. In addition, their own OPERS retirement system will be severely impacted.
This is not just a state movement to direct funds into their own pockets, it is a national movement as well. Those twelve states that have public pension funds would be hurt the most by this so-called political divesture of our retirement systems. I wonder, how many of these politicians themselves, their friends, and families sell to terrorist countries or have stock in companies that do business with them? And, should we Americans not buy GM, Ford, Honda and thousands of legitimate companies that do business with Iran, N. Korea and the Sudan? Our troops are not fighting so that an extreme group of politicians can destroy the economy of Ohio and all of America. This voting citizen cannot hardly wait until the national election to vote against these extremist national politicians.
As a Korean war veteran, this is my opinion,
