Subject: Today's attack on Ohio STRS
Today's report, which was critical of the Ohio State Teachers Retirement System, from the Fordham Institute came as a surprise to many public educators/retirees including this person. With the aid of the Internet I was able to find some information re. the Fordham Institute concerning Fordham's funding and operations complements to a 128 page paper written by David Johnson and Leonard M. Salle in 2004. This report is available as an Adobe download by going to this link:
The title of this report is "Responding to the Attack on Public Education and Teacher Unions." It is a very worthwhile read and explains why public education institutions are being attacked, how they are being attacked, and who are the persons and groups who are attacking. The scanned page attached to this email, page 107, divulges some of the funding for the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation and its president (Chester E. Finn - sound familiar?) receives and from whom. Please take the time to download this report and read it. Is it coincidental that the STRS just happens to be a public retirement system for public educators and received a critical report from an organization encourages private charter schools? I don't think so.
