Justice, Janczyk & Garwood discuss upcoming election

I personally think this is the wisest statement I've heard regarding the future election. I haven't heard anything that shows Strickland to be the "savior" for retired teachers or the state of Ohio. I, as well as everyone else in education, want things to improve. Remember, things could be worse. Hopefully, we won't have to deal with that. We're no better off with a little bit better situation as retired teachers and the situation for the state in the tank. We need the best possible situation in all are areas. Myopic vision can get us in trouble also.

I understand the thinking that membership does not want endorsements. But, I do think that those savvy on Blackwell and Strickland may disagree there is no evidence that Strickland would be better than Blackwell for education. OEA backs education minded candidates and calls Strickland a friend to educators and Blackwell's plan for education with the .65 per dollar is vehemently disagreed with by Republicans and Democrats.

Hello all,
I must disagree with the members of CORE who call for ORTA to endorse any political candidate. ORTA is not a political party; it is a professional association with the purpose of helping retired teachers. Retired teachers are probably united in the goal to attain stable, affordable health care and safe retirement pensions. The members of ORTA undoubtedly support those goals. The members of ORTA do not pay dues to have ORTA pursue political candidates. No doubt some of the ORTA members are Democrats and some are Republicans. It would not be appropriate to utilize ORTA money or time to endorse or support any candidate for any office. Furthermore, there is no proof that Mr. Strickland would do a better job for public education and retired teachers than Mr. Blackwell would. Again, the ORTA members are probably not united in supporting one candidate over another. I respectfully urge CORE members to help ORTA accomplish its stated goals and stop urging ORTA to act on issues or goals not consistent with the Association's purpose.
