Update on Al Rhonemus

From Patty Rhonemus, February 20, 2007
Subject: RE: wondering about AL
Sorry, I missed the teachers in reporting on Al. Al’s surgery was around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14. He had a restful night and we arrived home about 3 p.m. on Thursday. We were very impressed with the surgeon. I think he has done a good job if we can just be careful and not undo any of it.
Another long day yesterday going to the Lexington Clinic to have stitches removed from the surgery around his left eye. I am more and more convinced that it is a miracle that the eye itself was not damaged by the accident – the incisions for correcting the fractured bones were so close to the eye itself. All is still going well in the healing process. His frustration is not being able to read due to his glasses being broken and he needs a new prescription which we cannot get until the nose guard is removed.
The bones in his nose were shattered, not just fractured, so he has tubes in his nose which are pushing the bones in place and helping him to breathe. The nose guard is outside the nose as a protection device. Lord willing, all these will be removed this coming Friday and we will be able to take him to the optometrist next week. We are to get some relief from the weather with higher temperatures and rain hopefully removing the ice from the lane. The neighbors are still hanging in there with us. The Lord does provide.
