Minutes for the Feb. 17, 2011 CORE Meeting

At 12:15 President Dave Parshall opened the February 17, 2011 meeting of the Concerned Ohio Retired Educators (CORE) by greeting the 17 in attendance. He then extended a special welcome to first-time attendee, Debbie Rudy-Lack, who’d driven down from northeast Ohio [Aurora].
Since the January minutes had been sent out previously, Mary Ellen Angeletti moved to approve those minutes; Jill Fetters seconded it. The group approved the motion.
Treasurer Carole De Paola reported that the CORE treasury is “solvent.” In fact, the only expenditure since our last meeting was payment for our CORE website.
The CORE website was the next item on President Parshall’s agenda. The president explained to the assemblage that a prospective CORE member had accessed our site only to discover that it was gone! Fortuitously, that discovery occurred on the same day that the site had expired. Following several phone calls (including some out of the country), the glitch was corrected, the page re-instated, and our problem solved! Our CORE web page is now up and running.
President Dave gave a brief report on the February 15th Pension Champions Meeting. He reiterated some of what Laura Ecklar and Terri Bierdeman had covered at that meeting. For a more detailed account, he suggested members go to the STRS website for the specific details.
Parshall then handed out a proposed CORE position paper consisting of five points which we need the Health and Aging Subcommittee on Retirement and Pensions to be aware of.
After discussing and fine-tuning the five points, Dave said he’d make the changes, edit the paper and send it to Rep. Lynn Wachtmann along with a cover letter. The position paper – plus President Dave’s plan to edit then send it – was approved by the members.
The meeting adjourned at 1:15.
Respectfully submitted,
