Ralph L. Lloyd: Commentary

Now that the election is over, General Election that is, we need to focus ourselves on the situation with the STRS Board. You say what situation?, why the fact that they treat our money worse than a political subdivision does. Just recently they passed a resolution giving Damon Asbury, the Board president, and extension on his contract without proper procedure, they would not let Dennis or John bring up a conversation on it, they just rammed it through. My feeling is that as long as these people control how our money is spent they need to operate just the way that a political subdivision operates, which I might add I suggested to them in the September 14th STRS meeting. When the extension of Damon's contract was done and Conni was one of the ones who voted yes without discussion, I sent her an e-mail along with the OEA (her employer) about what I thought about that.
Ladies and Gentlemen, If we do not as group, insist they run their meetings as a council, trustee or commissioners meetings.
They must first establish a budget for the year to pay necessary expenses, and then consider any other expense, like contract extensions, computer purchases, bonus payments etc, as extra expenses to the budget. These items must be brought to the attention of the entire body, material passed out that pertains to the subject, and have three separate meeting in which this proposal is discussed and then voted on at the third meeting.
