ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION ACTION
Most, if not all, of you know that I have been working to save our STRS. In just the last few days, Rep. Blasdel, who was defeated for reelection in the last election, has introduced HB 700 and will push to have it enacted before he leaves the legislature. I am sending this email to you key people in the Elida Schools and ask you to alert your teachers. After all, you will all be coming to that retirement day sometime if you stick with teaching.
This bill would make it possible for teachers to invest their retirement money, both their contribution and the Board's amount in the stock market without STRS ever seeing a penny of it. This would be an iffy situation and many teachers would retire with not nearly as much coverage as they would with STRS The first thing they would miss would be the STRS Health Care plans. It would also cut down on STRS income while the stock brokers could make millions. The bill is aimed only at STRS and SERS, the schools and none of the other state retirement systems.
I am including letters from two other leaders of CORE. Please urge your people to write to Rep. John Willamowski and ask him to vote against it if it comes up for a vote before the year ends. We are depending on you.

Subject: Active Educators: STOP HB 700 NOW: HC Legislation; Choose Defined Benefits
Young educators could never save enough for their retirements let alone their Health Care from which they would also be deprived in they went the alternate option. Educators need always select defined benefit to secure retirement and hopefully HC which is being worked on through legislators compassionate to education being a service to the community. To quote huge numbers as a few legislators like to do has absolutely nothing to do with what educators receive since those numbers must take care of educators for generations to come and cannot be spent on just this one. Same with Soc. Sec. BE WARY of ANY ALTERNATIVES OFFERED YOU! Choose: Defined Benefit for guaranteed pensions and hopefully HC. Press your legislators to back the Health Care Legislation to increase employer/employee contributions to guarantee your pension and secure HC for all educators , retired and active. Do not be misled by rhetoric. Ask lots of questions and be sure you are not making irrevocable decisions locking yourself out of a state guaranteed pension and the HC offered. HC is funded until approx. 2021 and needs addt'l contributions to secure for generations to come. Work now for your security later.
