STRS Facts (election@fixmypension.org)

It's Time To Fix Our Pension!

It's very troubling that STRS is sending out official memos to its entire membership of actual misinformation. Throughout this election, Fix My Pension, a group of concerned Ohio teachers have been shining the spotlight on some startling facts.

BELOW ARE THE SOURCES. Please understand, this is our future, and the institution we are supposed to trust are saying these documents below don't exist. Pass this information to every teacher you know.

#1 OHIO TEACHERS HAVE THE WORST DEAL IN THE COUNTRY.

The Wisconsin Legislative Council completed a comparative review of every public pension in the United States. CONCLUSION: STRS Ohio is the only public pension in the country that has a negative normal employer cost, which means Ohio teachers contribute more than the value of their pension.

#2 Boston College Center for Retirement Research (CRR) never refuted the CONCLUSION above, even though STRS has sent numerous emails suggesting otherwise.

According to the Assistant Director of Communications of CRR, “The CRR did not reach out to confirm or refute the findings.”

Why is STRS lying to you?

#3 STRS COMPENSATION IS THE HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY

It’s impossible to justify paying $10 million in annual bonuses to the highest compensated public pension staff while Ohio teachers have the worst deal in the country.

These snapshots came from the U.S. Department of Labor. Unions are mandated to file this information yearly. Looks like OEA people are getting ripped off!

WARNING: Don't get caught up in election fraud

Election Warning (election@fixmypension.org)

It has come to our attention that local associations are inviting members to “voting parties” with “free food”, “prizes” and “gift cards” around the state that may violate state voter bribery laws.  (See Ohio Revised Code)

YOU MAY COMMIT A FOURTH DEGREE FELONY BY RECEIVING SOMETHING OF VALUE FOR “AGREEING TO VOTE” IN THE STRS ELECTION.

These events have been reported to the Ohio Elections Commission (OEC) for Voter Fraud.

We urge you to use caution when voting to avoid an appearance of exchanging your vote for something of value.

The following events have been referred to the OEC for violating Section 3599.02

  • April 22nd - Lorain, OH (The Shipyards)
  • April 14th - Online Voting Party (Ohio New Educators OEA)
  • April 12th - Centerville, OH (Geez Grille & Pub)*

* currently being investigated

Section 3599.02 - Bribery - offenses concerning voters or voting

No person shall before, during, or after any primary, general, or special election or convention solicit, request, demand, receive, or contract for any money, gift, loan, property, influence, position, employment, or other thing of value for that person or for another person for doing any of the following:

(A) Registering or refraining from registering to vote;

(B) Agreeing to register or to refrain from registering to vote;

(C) Agreeing to vote or to refrain from voting;

(D) Voting or refraining from voting at any primary, general, or special election or convention for a particular person, question, or issue;

(E) Registering or voting, or refraining from registering or voting, or voting or refraining from voting for a particular person, question, or issue.

Whoever violates this section is guilty of bribery, a felony of the fourth degree, and shall be disfranchised and excluded from holding any public office for five years immediately following such conviction.

What is OEA doing for you?

The BIGWIGS from OEA are trying to lie their way out of this STRS election.

The only thing that matters to Ohio teachers is the long term sustainability of their pension funds. Numbers matter and we're here to show you the truth.

Below is a chart from the Comprehensive Financial Annual Report (page 83):

STRS Numbers (election@fixmypension.org)

THE NUMBERS ARE CONCERNING...

Let's take a look (with sources):

FACT #1
Ohio teachers contribute 14% of every paycheck into their STRS account.

FACT #2
Only 10.8% of that 14% gets invested into their STRS account.

FACT #3
The above statistic comes straight from the STRS website: "2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report". On page 86, the second table shows "Employer Normal Cost is -3.14%".

Quick math reminder: 14 minus 3.14 equals 10.86
Quick translation: 77 cents of every dollar. It's true!

FACT #4
The Ohio Retirement Study Council (ORSC), an independent agency, noted in a report that "No other state retirement system has a negative normal cost."

FACT #5
Fix My Pension is here to provide facts and we provided the sources straight from the STRS Annual Report. OEA is lying to you that this isn't true. Print out page 86 of the STRS Annual Report, circle the Employee Normal Cost of -3.14 and have them explain it to you.

FACT #6
By voting for Foreman, Sellers & Jones will change the culture and fix our pensions.
FIX MY PENSION - VOTE RIGHT NOW

Your STRS Ballot Has Arrived.
Let's Vote for New Leadership.

You're currently seeing OEA messaging to vote for Robert McFee, Jeffrey Rhodes and Rita Walters. These three board members are the main decison makers who are making risky investments, paying huge fees to portfolio managers and even when seeing horrible returns, paying out millions in staff bonuses every single year.
